Kolkum Ra’ai is a short, animated video that speaks to the viewer along with evoking emotion and empathy as it highlights the parenting issue of emotional neglect. Children who have suffered from emotional neglect are affected negatively by not being able to express their emotions in a healthy manner. As they become adults their inability to show emotion could lead to depression and low self-esteem. The story portrayed through the animation is targeted towards Saudi parents between the ages of 20 to 35, it talks about the character Osama who went through emotional neglect as a child and became a ruthless personality without empathy. This project is significant to society due to problems that arise from this parenting style that is passed on from parents to children until it becomes a generational trauma. One of Saudi Arabia’s 2030 vision is having a healthy and vibrant society and a way to achieve that is for the future generation to grow up in healthy homes to be able to communicate well with others in the future.

“Amid life and its struggles, Maknoon captures the journey of a young Muslim to discover the power of douaa in a spiritual session, surrounded by serenity and transparency. In a safe space, he talks to God in a raw context of speech, no coordinated letters, nor a stylized vocabulary. He pours out his internal sufferings that burdened his shoulders, and disturbed his rest, unleashing his spirit to seek guidance and salvation from the only Creator. "
Maknoon is a short film designed to educate Muslim youth about the liberty embodied in Islamic spirituality, and how to utilize douaa as a coping mechanism for mental and emotional distress. Accordingly, it will enhance the quality of individual living as one of the provisions of Saudi Arabia 2030 Vision.
The sketchy visuals convey the unrefined and innocent relationship desired between the Muslim and his Lord, far from ideal and traditional pursuits. The deepened acoustics personify a genuine experience, awakening the spirituality of the viewer, and provoking him to wonder and pray.
